Linda Thompson
Yoop It Up Kennel
Cannon Falls, MN 55009

Linda is returning to the CopperDog in 2019 after having run the CD40 in 2013, 2014, and 2015. She was a handler for the CopperDog 150 in 2010. She was hooked on mushing after he parents took her to the end of the UP200 in 1991.

Her kennel, Yoop It Up, in Cannon Falls, MN, currently has seven Alaskans, one Gernam Shorthair Pointer, and one Retriever mix. Her lead dogs are Falen, Mather, and Ducky.

Linda's crazies mushing story is when she ran six dogs with a cart, slipped on ice around a stop sign and hurt her lower back pretty bad. She let four of the six dogs loose to walk them back to her truck and they ran down the trail after being frightened by an ambulance siren. One of the dogs, Carter, went missing for 17 days. He is now 13 years old, retired, and loving life!

Shannon Cummings is joining us from Duluth, MN. His kennel's name is Lester River, which has seven dogs. His lead is Aggie.

He got involved with mushing by handling for his now wife in the Beargrease in 2015, Mallory Sturmer. He has raced the last three seasons including CopperDog 80 in 2016, Apostle Islands 60, Beargrease 40, and Jackpine 30.

His craziest mushing story was pacing a herd of deer parallel to him running full out in a field for 1/4 mile!

Kelsey Beaber
Flying K Kennel
Mountain, WI 54149

Kelsey Beaber is back for her third CopperDog. Her lead dogs are Tulip and Raksha.

Her craziest mushing story was during training this year when the gang line broke and they had to stop 20 dogs and get them tied off to trees until help arrived!

Kelsey's favorite memory of CopperDog was running the race with her dad two years ago! She'll have a little sister joining her and her dad this year! New memories!

Coolest fact about Kelsey? She holds the record being the youngest musher to ever run the CopperDog; she was 11 when she raced the CD80 in 2017! She came in 10th place out of 13 mushers. And in 2018 she again raced the CD80 coming in seventh out 19 mushers!

Also in 2018, she was the youngest musher to ever race the Midnight Run! But tell you too, that her sister Kiana is about to match the same record in the CopperDog!

Mountain, WI 54149

Ryan Beaber is joining us again from Flying K Kennel in Mountain, WI for his third CopperDog. He has been mushing for a while, since he got hooked 19 years ago helping a sprint musher!

His craziest mushing story was being dragged down a highway and losing his team, while his 12 year old daughter stopped her team and caught his at the same time!

Flying K Kennel is a large enough kennel to train five teams. His lead dogs will be Ginger and Explorer.

His favorite memory of CopperDog was two years ago when his now 13 year old daughter ran when she was 11! Maybe this year he'll have a new favorite memory since another daughter of his is joining the race!

Jim Bardoner
Southeastern Sled Dogs
Signal Mountain, TN 37377

Jim Bardoner is also joining us from Signal Mountain, TN. This will be his first time running the CopperDog. The last time he attended he was as a handler for his son, Micah, who is also running the CD25 this year.

Jim has run the Seeley Lake 200 (once), the Race to the Sky (twice), and the Iditarod (once, withdrew at a checkpoint). Both he and his son have both done some dryland racing and some five to 10 miles sprints. They both ran the JackPine 30 this year.

It was good for Jim to get back on the runners after being off of them for a couple of years. Their kennel is Southeastern Sled Dogs which is located in Tennessee and they train in the mountains. They currently have 18 dogs in the kennel.

He really enjoyed the festive atmosphere the last time he and Micah were here - we're sure they'll enjoy it again!

Susan Serafini
Two Hearted Racing Kennel
Hancock, MI 49930

Susan, one of our local mushers is returning for her sixth CopperDog with leads Lily and Grace. She got into mushing after Walt Babcock introduced her to skijoring - and the rest is history.

Her favorite CopperDog memory was last years Friday night run with the amazing full moon.

Susan's craziest mushing story was losing her team during her very first JackPine 30 and being picked up by a team of Irish Setters! A good friend of hers caught her team and rode both sleds to the nearest road crossing. Susan happened to have another very good friend at that road crossing who watched her team until she arrived - via a team of Irish Setters!

She would like to thank Ed Kraai, her biggest fan and supporter!

Mushing Club at Michigan Tech / Otter River Sled Dog Training Center
Houghton, MI 49931

Ty never thought he would ever be a musher, but his friend Colie, who is running the CD80 this year, brought him out to run dogs one Saturday in December and he fell in love! After that, he continued mushing with Tom Bauer and the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech.

He is a second year mechanical engineering student at Michigan Tech and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He loves everything about the Keweenaw. His lead dogs are Triton and Laddie.

Ty would like to thank Surplus Outlet, Michigan Tech Undergraduate Student Government, and Michigan Tech Alumni.

On his first time mushing he ran next to the sled more than on it to keep it from tipping over - so - wish this first timer best of luck in the CD25!

Lucy Tyrrell
Raven's Wing Kennel
Bayfield, WI 54814

Lucy is joining us for her very first CopperDog from Raven's Wing Kennel in Bayfield, WI. She has eight dogs in her kennel and her leads are Enda Finnegan and Hallie.

She completed in the Yukon Quest 300 in 2009. Lucy drove to Alaska this winter and trained miles and miles, intending to run the Yukon Quest 300 again - with six of her dogs and three leased ones; but low snow conditions meant an unsafe trail and the race marshal shortened the race and instituted a time restriction so she chose to withdraw before the race started. :(

Apostle Islands Realty, Blue Water Realty, and Racey's Tasty Dog Treats sponsored her would-be race in the Yukon so she would like to thank them now!

Here's a crazy mushing story for everyone! During the 200-mile Percy de Wolfe race (Dawson City, Yukon to Eagle, Alaska ...and back), Lucy had to scratch in Eagle because her dogs were too tired. Eagle is only accessible by road in summer so she had to charter a plane to get her and the team back to Dawson.

Once she got over the shock of how much she had to pay for the charter, it was a great chance to see the trail they had just taken along the Yukon River. All the dogs were placed in bags with holes for their heads (borrowed from the Yukon Quest checkpoint supplies) and placed in the back of the two-seater bush plane. This was an unexpected extra adventure!!!

Mountain, WI 54149

Kiana is our youngest musher in the CopperDog this year! She's been coming to the races for the last three years but never as a musher! She's tied with her sister, Kelsey, for the two youngest mushers ever to race the CopperDog at 11 years old!

She has been running dogs for four years now and has raced kids events. Her leaders for the CD25 are Peace and Kaa.

Last year the Beaber's built a cardboard dog house and raced in the DogHouse races in Calumet on Saturday - this year she'll be experiencing a whole new side of the race! When it is in your blood, there is nothing you can do... but mush-on!

Richie Camden
Breakaway Siberians
Hillsboro, MO 63050

Richie Camden is traveling to the CopperDog from Hillsboro, MO for his very first CopperDog. His kennel is called Breakaway Siberians. His lead dogs are Kaiya and Juneau.

He initially got into mushing when he bought a Siberian Husky in 2008 from a breeder in Northern Wisconsin. He had no intention of even getting into mushing! The very first time he went to a sled dog race it was a 90-mile race that he entered which was his first attempt at mushing.

When Richie first started mushing he used to train the team by letting them pull him while he was on roller-blades. He's wondering how he survived!

All of his dogs are adopted from rescue groups around the Midwest. To date, they have adopted 12 Siberian Huskies. His team was filmed in two commercials for Diamond Naturals dog food.

Kaiya was adopted from Free Spirit Husky Rescue in Illinois. Juneau was adopted from Dogsaver in Missouri. Marleau is from Gunner’s Run in Illinois. Spezza is from Indy Homes for Huskies in Indiana. Roenick is from Doginham Rescue in Tennessee and Fleury was adopted from Indy Homes for Huskies!

Richie's sponsors are Alpine Outfitters and Diamond Naturals dog food.

North Branch, MN 55056

Tim Chisholm is joining us from Bad Moon Rising Kennel in North Branch, MN where he has 13 dogs - Mooka and Anna are his lead dogs.

Tim got himself into mushing when he started with weight pulling, which then led to hooking his Chessies to a sled... and then... the Alaskan Huskies came next. He has too many crazy stories to tell - but he does have a good one about training dogs while riding a bicycle! Ask him about it!

His favorite memories of CopperDog are simply all the great people he has met along his ride!

She would like to thank her kennel sponsor, Forest Insurance Center Agency, and also thank her race sponsors Joe & Bonnie Bennett, Dr. Hilary Newby DDS, Superior Health & Wellness, Dave & Joan Coven, Jay & Loretta Holnagel, Rin & Carolyn Ford, and Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Bak.

His kennel has 29 dogs. He picked up mushing from is dad, Brad, who was getting ready to sell all of his dogs so he thought he would give it a try!

No crazy mushing stories from Jesse yet, sounds like he has had it pretty easy! But we are pretty darn certain he will leave the Copper Country with a few... a few great ones!
