Chris Kivi is back with the Malamutes - aka the fluffs - for his third CopperDog! He and his team are from CD Kennels in Solon Springs, WI.

His favorite story is from the first year they ran the CD25. He asked ahead of time if the malamutes would be ok. The "CopperDog folks" graciously allowed them to run and it was the best race he has participated in. It was amazing how many people were waiting for them, he says. The best part was, due to an innocent mix-up, the tag on the red lantern was dated for the previous year. That's right, the malamutes won the red lantern for the previous year's race. When he noticed it the next morning, he choked on his coffee he was laughing so hard. He said he could not have asked for anything better.

Christy Felty is back from Ludington, MI with Wildbunch Kennel to run another race. She is joining us for her third CopperDog, this year running the CopperDog 15 with leaders Quest and Mr. Slate!

Casey is running his third CopperDog! He is from Deerwood, MN and lead dogs Chandler and Sandy are from Cross Country Kennel.

His dad, Steve, will be running in the CopperDog 30. Even though they are in different races, we will see who gets the best time!

Aubrey, from Juckette Racing, in Dundee, MI is back for her second CopperDog. She will be running the CopperDog 15 this year with leads Charlie, Oakley, and Woodstock.

When she was a little girl about five, she was so excited about the UP200 dogsled race and meeting the mushers, she took her American Girl Doll dog sled and had all the mushers sign it!!! Her mom and dad never thought that love would grow into traveling around the world attending races and handling and training her own five dogs in their Juckette Racing Kennel!!!

Aside from having attended some of the biggest races in North America her favorites are here in Michigan, her family loves that with all the work Aubrey has put in to becoming a respected musher that world class events such as the CopperDog, allow her to showcase her training and build on her dreams!!

Nicole Freking, from Manitou Crossing Kennels in Finland, MN is running her first CopperDog race this year with Butterfly in the lead! By the way, Nicole is 10 years old!!

Her sister is also running in the CopperDog 15 and both her mom and dad are running the CopperDog 150!

Although this is Nicole's first year running long distance races, she has been running her own teams since she was three years old. She is very excited to be running in the 2023 CopperDog 15!

Elena Freking is 12-years-old and is joining us for her very first CopperDog. She will be running the CopperDog 15 with lead dogs Nova and Charlotte. Her parents and sister are also running in the CopperDog this year too, out of Manitou Crossing Kennels in Finland, MN.

Elena has been running her own team since she was 4-years-old! In 2022 she ran the Klondike Dog Derby and Wolftrack Classic. This year she is running the Beargrease, CopperDog, Klondike Dog Derby, and Wolftrack Classic!

She is very excited to be running our race!

Mara Grentz, from Nisula,MI will be running for Frost Creek Kennel. This is her first time racing in the CoppperDog, but she is no stranger to the race! Her leads will be Eve and Queso.

Mara has attended as a spectator and as a handler for many years. This will be her second time racing running her own team. She is looking forward to a clean run and spending time on the trails with her team.

Niina is running her first CopperDog out of Avalanche Kennels in Rhinelander, WI. She will be in the CopperDog 15 with leads Wesley and Focus.

She has been racing since she was six years old. Her first dog was a husky mutt puppy from an accidental litter the neighbor had. 21 years later Niina is still competing in mushing sports.

Niina is a limited class sprint musher who usually skijors or runs a 2-dog sled and 4-dog sled class. She has decided to put all her dogs together and try out the CopperDog 15 as a new challenge. She has been on Team USA for International Federation of Sleddog Sports World Championship events.

Andrea is running her very first CopperDog in her very first sled racing season! She is from Peterson Kennel in Backus, MN running lead dogs Heather and Selena.

Last year was when she first got interested in racing. The first time she ran dogs on a sled was near the end of the season and when they did the first 90 degree turn she got tossed and dragged, but she didn’t let go! That is the important part! It would have been a great video!

Kyra has attended CopperDog twice, but this year is her first time racing. She will be in the CopperDog 15 with leads Ada and Kaa. She is running a team out of Flying K Kennel from Mountain, WI.

Once when she raced at Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race, she was on a corner and was going too fast and flew into a snowbank and lost her dogs! The snow hook fell off and stopped her team. She caught them but could not get her hook out of the ground and another team was coming and ran into her sled and broke one of her runners. She got the snow hook out but a snowmobile came and she caught a ride with them and a volunteer drove her dogs to the finish on the broken sled!

Jerry Trudell, from Calumet, has attended every single CopperDog and raced in all but one! His kennel is ...Sharks Came Racing and his leads are Lester and Kellogs.

He has been racing since 2008 and during that time he and his wife have had the privilege of running amazing athletes and meeting wonderful people. There is not a better sport. He would like to thank their handlers, past and present, as their dedication is appreciated more than they know. He would also like to thank his wife, Pat.

Janine is attending her first CopperDog... and her second race EVER. It is their first season to see and be on snow and hooked up together. Take note that Janine is from FL8risk Siberians - out of Saint Cloud, FL. Yes, that is FLORIDA! Her leaders are Chloe, Summit, Bleu, and TinMan (everyone but Sugar).

Northern Pines was their first race and Bleu decided that loping through the three feet of snow instead of geeing along ON the trail was a good idea. Chloe decided a snow bath was in order while Janine sorted out the tangles, repositioned, and prayed for a successful "line-out" while she made her way back to the sled. This two minute departure from her last place start was observed by all spectators from the hilltop. Cheers and claps for the underdog she was later told!

Janine does not have any sponsors but would like to bring awareness to the MS community that these things that folks dream of doing are possible with their best friends they call sled dogs.

Janine would like to thank the mushing community for a warm welcome, support for a new musher from FL and forgiveness for unintentional mistakes. Teri and Vince Grout for opening up their kennel for her team and herself. Erica Tieppo and Alexis for making her believe she should continue this crazy adventure.
