Christy is joining us for her second CopperDog. Her lead dogs, from the WildBunch Kennel, are Quest and Barney.

Christy has been mushing for 12 years, she started with three Border Collies and now has four Alaskans and two hounds. She wishes she started the sport 20 years earlier as she loves the time on the trails with her team.

Her husband is her sponsor, he's a big supporter of her mushing hobby.

Good luck in the CD25, Christy!

Chris Kivi
CD Kennels
Solon Springs, WI 54873

Chris Kivi is back with the big fluffs for his second CopperDog!

His leaders will be Drift and Kootenai. If you see a big black and white malamute, that means that Oreo has stepped into the lead!

He would like to thanks his sponsors; B & I Property Maintenance and Got Dogs Racing.

His favorite mushing story was back at the 2020 CopperDog where he received the red lantern in the CD25. How slow are malamutes? Slow enough that he received a 2019 red lantern for completing the 2020 race. He knows it was a simple innocent mistake involving the printer but he loved how it played out and thinks it's the greatest gag ever!

Good luck Chris!

Aubrey Juckette
Juckette Racing
Dundee, MI 48131

Aubrey is joining us from Dundee, MI - mushing out of the Juckette Racing Kennel. Her lead-dogs are Woodstock, Oakley, and Lewis.

Aubrey handled last year for the Nature's Kennel teams of Laura and Ed!! That was their only time at CopperDog, so this will be her first CD25 race that she's running!

When Aubrey was a little girl, about five years old, she was so excited about the UP200 dogsled race and meeting the mushers, she took her American Girl doll "dogsled" and had all the mushers sign it!!! Her mom and dad never thought that the love would grow into traveling around the world attending races, handling, and training her own five dogs in their Juckette Racing Kennel!!!

Aside from having attended some of the biggest races in North America, her favorites are here in Michigan. They love that with all the work Aubrey has put in to becoming a respected musher, that world-class events such as the CopperDog allow her to showcase her training and build on her dreams!!

She would like to thank the following sponsors; Nature’s Kennel and Magnusson Racing. ...but really, her mom and dad are her biggest sponsors!! Her #jucketteracing Facebook and Twitter followers rock also and need some props!!

Good luck in your first CopperDog 25!

Good luck in the CD25 Casey! ...and just between us; beat your dad!

Linda Lange
Last Chance Kennel
Baldwin, MI 49304

Linda is joining us for her second CopperDog from Last Chance Kennel in Baldwin, MI! She's entered the 6-dog race several times but didn't end up at the start-line until last year. Her lead dogs are Agate and Cob.

Her crazy mushing story occurred at one of the last Tahquemenon races out of Rainbow Lodge, they were stopped along the road in a turn-out area to drop dogs before heading home and ended up catching a loose 10-dog team that was running down the middle of the road towards them!

Linda has been racing with sled dogs since 1991, she started out ski-joring, then went on to sprint racing, then mid-distance racing - and all in Michigan. Along with her husband, Rick, they have hosted races with Michigan Dog Drivers Association, Mid-Union Sled Haulers and Great Lakes Sled Dog Association on the Sweetwater Non-Motorized Winter Sports trails in the Baldwin area. MiDD worked with the Forest Service and local Road Commission to implement the trail system on federal, county and private land.

Linda spent her first few years of her life in Mohawk and Laurium, staying with her grandparents during the week while her dad went to MTU and her mom worked at Mullen's Dry Cleaners in Calumet. Her paternal grandparents lived in Atlantic Mine. They vacationed at Lac LaBelle throughout her childhood, staying at Red Sands Cabins.

Kate Dehlin
Basalt Tamaskan Kennel
Negaunee, MI 49866

From Basalt Tamaskan Kennel in Negaunee, Kate Dehlin is running her first CopperDog! Her lead dogs are Sphinx and Graph.

Kate was raised in Phoenix, AZ but spent her summers in the U.P. She moved to the Marquette area in 2007 and got her first dog in 2011 after graduating from NMU. Kate has been mushing dogs for 11 years and has a kennel of five Tamaskan dogs.

To round out her CopperDog team she will be using three of Team Evergreen Kennels Alaskan Huskies as two of her dogs are now retired. Kate has raced in the Ironline 4-dog class, Tahqumenon 4- and 6-dog classes, and the Beargrease 40. Outside of racing she also shows her dogs in the conformation ring and competes in barn-hunt trials.

From the first time Kate got on the runners, she was hooked. She decided not to move to start a master's program, but instead, get into working dogs as more than just a hobby. Two years later she entered her first race.

She always gives a big thank you to her dogs for giving it their all. Life would be pretty boring without them, she says.

Judas Bardon
Rat Farm Homestead
Duluth, MN 55803

Judas Bardon, from Duluth, MN, and mushing out of Rat Farm Homestead is joining us for their first CopperDog! Bardon's leaders are Cohen and Cave.

Bardon's whole history of mushing is the best crazy story (which Bardon has only really been doing for three years). Last year they crossed the finish line of their first and only race (so far); a 40-miler with a team of Siberians made up of two seniors that were gifted, three 3-year-olds that were raised from pups without a clue, plus a yearling Malamute who started training about six runs prior...

This year there is a new dog who's bounced around multiple kennels and came with emotional issues but is finally in her forever home making roughly half the team, "second chancers". Everything we do has been called crazy by someone (teaching reactive dogs to run as partners, giving seniors a chance to shine, keeping "problem dogs" so they can have stability) but they do it together and as long as the dogs are happy then so is Judas!

Bardon will never understand the criticism, especially when you can see these dogs flourish. Judas doesn't care about winning, but cares about making memories with the team. During the first year Judas couldn't find equipment and they only ran once at the end of the season. Now they've done hundreds of miles together!

Judas is a professional tour guide with an amazing non-profit. The "mushing career" has been a trial-by-fire and no one knows what tomorrow will bring and Judas can't bare to miss any opportunities on a dream it took so long to catch up to.

Judas is generously and lovingly sponsored by Mary Anderson, Sue Vanderweyst, Miranda & Erick Swanson, and Cassidy.

Judas is a sled dog tour guide, kennel hand, and outdoor educator at Positive Energy Outdoors in Duluth. They also volunteer extensively with the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon (as well as run the 40) and visit schools to provide sled dog educational demos. Judas is also a farmer and artist in Northern Minnesota.

Good luck in your first CopperDog!

Kelly started mushing in 1994. She has been blessed to race and run dogs from Oregon to Canada and every thing in between. After a three year hiatus from running dogs, CopperDog will be less about racing and more about enjoying the Copper Country Wilderness with six of her best friends as well as seeing all her mushing friends again.

2021 CopperDog 25 Race Results

The CopperDog 25 featured a wonderful field of 19 mushers and their six dog teams. The teams were slowed by the sugar snow on the trail, but the weather was cooperative and made for a great race. Congratulations to the winner Ben Thompson who just edged out Morgan Larson by 15 seconds.

It was a family affair with Sara and Anna Anderson (wife and daughter of JR Anderson, this years winner of the CD150), the father and son teams of Steve and Casey Goedken, and the sisters Kiana and Kelsey Beaber.
